Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official said the incident rendered him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
